ByTheWeb GEO lets you define a more specific Schema.org WebPage type for supported content when ByTheWeb GEO is managing your site’s core SEO and Schema layer.
By default, singular content uses the standard WebPage type. When a page has a more specific purpose, you can manually select AboutPage, ContactPage, FAQPage, or SearchResultsPage.

Where to Find the Page Type Setting
Edit a supported Post, Page, or other enabled content type in WordPress.
In the ByTheWeb GEO panel, open:
Advanced SEO, Indexing & Social
Find:
Page Type (Schema Type)
The available options are:
- Auto (Default)
- AboutPage
- ContactPage
- FAQPage
- SearchResultsPage
Choose the appropriate option and update the content.
What Does Auto (Default) Mean?
For singular content, Auto (Default) uses:
WebPage
It does not analyze the content and automatically guess whether the page is an About page, Contact page, FAQ page, or another specialized type.
If a more specific supported type accurately describes the page, select it manually.
For most ordinary pages where none of the specialized types applies, leave the setting on Auto (Default).
AboutPage
Choose:
AboutPage
when the main purpose of the page is to describe the organization, business, website, or person behind the site.
Typical examples include:
About Us
About the Company
About Me
Selecting AboutPage changes the WebPage type used for that individual content item when ByTheWeb GEO manages the Schema.
ContactPage
Choose:
ContactPage
when the primary purpose of the page is to provide ways to contact the organization or person.
For example, a dedicated Contact Us page containing an address, phone number, email address, contact form, or other contact methods can use ContactPage.
This setting describes the purpose of the page. It does not create or replace the separate Customer Support Contact structured data configured under Entity & Schema.
FAQPage
Choose:
FAQPage
when the page itself is specifically intended to function as a Frequently Asked Questions page.
Selecting FAQPage changes the page type, but it does not create FAQ questions or answers.
Actual FAQ content is managed separately through the ByTheWeb FAQ tools.

What Happens When FAQ Data Already Exists?
Starting with ByTheWeb GEO 1.3.2, valid ByTheWeb FAQ data no longer changes an ordinary page into an FAQPage automatically.
When the page uses WebPage, AboutPage, ContactPage, or another supported page type, the FAQ Questions are added to that page through hasPart, while the original Page Type remains unchanged.
If FAQPage is explicitly selected as the Page Type, the FAQ Questions are attached to the FAQPage using mainEntity.
You therefore do not need to select FAQPage simply because a page contains some FAQs. Select it only when the page itself is primarily a Frequently Asked Questions page.
SearchResultsPage
Choose:
SearchResultsPage
only when the individual content genuinely represents a search-results page.
ByTheWeb GEO also uses SearchResultsPage automatically for the native WordPress search results view when it manages the site’s core Schema.
The automatic WordPress search classification is separate from the manual selector available while editing singular content.
Automatic Types for WordPress Views
Some WordPress views do not use the individual Page Type selector.
When ByTheWeb GEO manages the core Schema, it automatically uses appropriate baseline types for these views:
Author archives
ProfilePage
WordPress search results
SearchResultsPage
Category, Tag, supported Taxonomy, and other Archive views
CollectionPage
These automatic types do not require you to configure each archive individually.
Page Type vs. Article Schema
Page Type Schema and Article Schema serve different purposes.
The Page Type setting describes the webpage that contains the content.
For a normal WordPress Post using Auto, that page-level entity remains:
WebPage
If Article Schema is enabled, ByTheWeb GEO can also create a separate:
Article
entity for the Post.
The Article entity represents the article itself, while the WebPage entity represents the webpage on which the article appears.
Changing the Page Type does not replace or disable Article Schema.
What Happens with Yoast SEO or Rank Math SEO?
If Yoast SEO or Rank Math SEO is active, the external SEO provider manages the site’s core WebPage Schema.
ByTheWeb GEO does not create a competing WebPage entity and does not apply its manual Page Type override.
Because of this, the ByTheWeb Page Type (Schema Type) control is not used for the overlapping Schema layer while a supported external SEO provider is active.
ByTheWeb GEO can still provide its supported non-overlapping GEO functionality and Schema enrichment.

Which Content Can Use the Manual Page Type Setting?
The Page Type selector is available for supported singular content where ByTheWeb GEO is managing the applicable SEO layer.
This can include Posts, Pages, and supported public custom post types that are enabled in ByTheWeb GEO’s SEO settings.
Taxonomy terms do not use this manual Page Type selector.
Their archive views can use the applicable automatic CollectionPage type when ByTheWeb GEO manages the Schema.
Does Page Type Schema Use AI?
No.
Selecting and outputting Page Type Schema does not require:
- A ByTheWeb AI account
- An API connection
- AI credits
It is a local ByTheWeb GEO structured data feature.
Which Page Type Should I Choose?
Use the most specific option only when it accurately describes the primary purpose of the page.
A simple approach is:
- Leave ordinary pages on Auto (Default).
- Use
AboutPagefor a genuine About page. - Use
ContactPagefor a genuine Contact page. - Use
FAQPagewhen the page itself is primarily an FAQ page. - Use
SearchResultsPageonly for content representing search results.
If none of the specialized options accurately applies, keep WebPage by leaving the selector on Auto (Default).
Does Page Type Schema Guarantee Better Rankings or Rich Results?
No.
Page Type Schema provides machine-readable information about the purpose of the webpage.
Search engines and AI platforms determine independently how they process, display, rank, cite, or otherwise use that information.
Recommended Setup
- Edit the Post, Page, or supported content item.
- Open the ByTheWeb GEO panel.
- Expand Advanced SEO, Indexing & Social.
- Find Page Type (Schema Type).
- Leave Auto (Default) for ordinary content.
- Select a specialized Page Type only when it accurately describes the page.
- Update the content.
- Manage actual FAQ data separately if the page contains FAQs.
- If Yoast SEO or Rank Math SEO is active, manage the overlapping core Schema through that SEO provider.
