ByTheWeb AI and ByTheWeb GEO are separate WordPress plugins that can be installed individually or used together.
This page explains the current minimum WordPress requirements and the integrations that are explicitly supported by the plugins.
WordPress Requirements
The current minimum requirements for both ByTheWeb AI and ByTheWeb GEO are:
- WordPress 6.0 or later
- PHP 7.4 or later
The current plugin version and the latest WordPress version each release has been tested with are maintained on the official WordPress.org plugin pages.
For the latest compatibility information, see:
Can I Install ByTheWeb AI Without ByTheWeb GEO?
Yes.
ByTheWeb AI is a standalone WordPress plugin.
It provides features including:
- AI Audit
- FAQ Schema management and AI generation
- Media Metadata Optimization
- API Connection & Credits
ByTheWeb GEO is not required for ByTheWeb AI to be installed or used.
Can I Install ByTheWeb GEO Without ByTheWeb AI?
Yes.
ByTheWeb GEO is also a standalone WordPress plugin.
Its local GEO, structured data, LLM-file, dashboard, and supported SEO functionality can operate without ByTheWeb AI.
ByTheWeb AI is the optional companion plugin used when you want supported AI-powered generation actions inside the ByTheWeb workflow.
For a full comparison, see:
Using ByTheWeb AI and ByTheWeb GEO Together
The two plugins are designed to work together while remaining separate plugins.
When ByTheWeb AI and ByTheWeb GEO are used together, ByTheWeb AI can provide supported AI-assisted actions for GEO fields such as Short Answer, AI Summary, and FAQ Schema.
The generated or saved information remains available to the corresponding ByTheWeb GEO workflow.
Starting with ByTheWeb GEO 1.3.2, ByTheWeb AI and ByTheWeb GEO use the same stored FAQ data, but the structured-data output depends on which plugin is active. Without ByTheWeb GEO, ByTheWeb AI can output the FAQ as standalone FAQPage JSON-LD. When ByTheWeb GEO is active, GEO handles the shared FAQ structured-data integration, prevents duplicate ByTheWeb FAQ Schema output, and incorporates the Questions into the applicable page or supported SEO-provider Schema structure.
Yoast SEO Compatibility
ByTheWeb AI supports Yoast SEO for generated article SEO metadata.
ByTheWeb GEO also detects Yoast SEO as a supported external SEO provider.
When Yoast SEO is active, ByTheWeb GEO leaves overlapping traditional SEO functionality and core Schema ownership to Yoast while keeping its supported GEO functionality available.
This includes supported ByTheWeb GEO features such as:
- GEO scoring and AI Readiness
- Short Answer
- AI Summary
- FAQ features
- llms.txt and llms-full.txt
- Supported Schema enrichment
ByTheWeb GEO does not need to replace Yoast SEO in order to provide those GEO features.
Rank Math SEO Compatibility
ByTheWeb GEO also detects Rank Math as a supported external SEO provider.
When Rank Math is active, ByTheWeb GEO leaves overlapping traditional SEO functionality and core Schema ownership to Rank Math while keeping its supported GEO functionality available.
This includes supported ByTheWeb GEO features such as:
- GEO scoring and AI Readiness
- Short Answer
- AI Summary
- FAQ features
- llms.txt and llms-full.txt
- Supported Schema enrichment
What Happens If Both Yoast SEO and Rank Math Are Active?
ByTheWeb uses a defined provider priority when determining the supported SEO provider.
The current provider priority is:
- Yoast SEO
- Rank Math SEO
- ByTheWeb GEO
- No supported SEO provider
This means that if both Yoast SEO and Rank Math SEO are active at the same time, ByTheWeb uses Yoast SEO as the selected supported SEO provider.
When Does ByTheWeb GEO Manage Classic SEO?
ByTheWeb GEO includes its own supported traditional SEO functionality for websites that are not using Yoast SEO or Rank Math SEO as the active supported external SEO provider.
This includes supported controls such as:
- SEO Titles
- Meta Descriptions
- Title and Description Templates
- Canonical URLs
- Index / Noindex controls
- Open Graph images
- XML Sitemap
- Robots.txt AI Policy Manager
When Yoast SEO or Rank Math SEO is active, ByTheWeb GEO disables or avoids its overlapping traditional SEO output and leaves that responsibility to the external SEO provider.
Its GEO-specific and supported non-overlapping functionality remains available.
Elementor Integration
ByTheWeb includes dedicated Elementor integrations for specific features.
ByTheWeb GEO includes Elementor widgets for:
- AI Summary
- AI Short Answer
- Breadcrumbs
These widgets allow the corresponding ByTheWeb GEO content to be displayed and styled inside Elementor.
ByTheWeb AI includes an Elementor FAQ integration for displaying FAQ content managed by the shared FAQ system.
The Elementor integrations are loaded when Elementor is available.
For information about the GEO widgets and shortcodes, see:
GEO Shortcodes & Elementor Widgets
For FAQ display options, see:
FAQ Shortcode & Elementor Widget
Posts, Pages and Custom Post Types
ByTheWeb features do not all apply automatically to every possible WordPress content type.
Different features have their own supported content-type settings and behavior.
For example, ByTheWeb AI supports FAQ Schema for:
- Pages
- Posts
- Supported custom post types
ByTheWeb GEO also provides configurable support for selected post types and taxonomies across features such as:
- GEO analysis
- SEO settings where ByTheWeb GEO is the SEO provider
- llms.txt and llms-full.txt
- Sitemap eligibility
- Post and taxonomy GEO fields
Where the plugin provides a post-type or taxonomy selection setting, the enabled content types are controlled through that setting.
Taxonomy Support
ByTheWeb GEO includes functionality for supported WordPress taxonomies.
This includes supported taxonomy handling for features such as:
- Short Answer
- AI Summary
- FAQ
- SEO metadata when ByTheWeb GEO is the SEO provider
- Indexing controls
- LLM-file inclusion
- Sitemap inclusion
- Schema-related data where applicable
The available behavior depends on the specific ByTheWeb GEO feature and the selected taxonomy settings.
FAQ Data Between ByTheWeb AI and ByTheWeb GEO
ByTheWeb AI and ByTheWeb GEO use the supported shared FAQ workflow.
FAQ data can be:
- Added manually
- Edited manually
- Generated with ByTheWeb AI
- Used for supported FAQPage structured data
- Displayed through supported shortcode or Elementor functionality
This allows ByTheWeb AI to provide the AI-generation layer while ByTheWeb GEO can use the FAQ information as part of its GEO and structured-data workflow.
Does ByTheWeb Require an API Key?
Not for all functionality.
ByTheWeb AI includes functionality that can be used without connecting an API Key, including supported manual features and the AI Audit engines available without an API connection.
A ByTheWeb API Key is required for connected cloud AI features such as:
- Automatic FAQ generation
- AI-assisted image metadata generation
- Other supported ByTheWeb Cloud AI actions
The connected API Key is also used to enable all supported AI Audit engines.
For setup instructions, see:
Does ByTheWeb GEO Require an API Key?
ByTheWeb GEO itself does not require an API Key for its local functionality.
Its supported local features include GEO fields, analysis, structured data, LLM files, and its applicable SEO controls.
When ByTheWeb AI is installed and connected, supported AI-powered actions can be added to the ByTheWeb GEO workflow, including supported Fix with AI actions.
For more information, see:
External ByTheWeb Services
ByTheWeb AI connects to ByTheWeb external services for supported cloud-powered functionality.
Depending on the action, this includes operations such as:
- FAQ generation
- Image analysis
- Account and credit verification
Requests that require an account include the API Key and website domain for authentication and domain validation.
The AI Audit also opens the ByTheWeb Website Scanner for the current website domain.
For details about free and credit-based functionality, see:
What If I Use Another SEO Plugin?
The currently implemented external SEO integrations in ByTheWeb AI and ByTheWeb GEO are for:
- Yoast SEO
- Rank Math SEO
The plugins contain specific detection and provider logic for those supported SEO plugins.
This Help Center does not assume that another SEO plugin receives the same integration behavior unless support for that plugin is explicitly added to ByTheWeb.
How Can I Check the Latest Plugin Compatibility?
The minimum requirements are currently:
- WordPress 6.0+
- PHP 7.4+
For the latest stable version and current WordPress compatibility information, use the official WordPress.org listings:
This keeps the Help Center independent of a hardcoded “Tested up to” version that can change with future releases.
